Davido recently made headlines by becoming the first Nigerian music star to acquire the ultra-luxury Rolls-Royce Spectre Electric Coupe, with an estimated expenditure of nearly N1 billion. This purchase not only underscores Davido’s penchant for luxury but also introduces the Rolls-Royce Spectre to the Nigerian market, sparking increased interest in the model’s specifications, pricing, and performance.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre Electric Coupe is equipped with a powerful all-electric drivetrain comprising two Separately Excited Synchronous Motors (SSMs). These motors deliver impressive performance, with the front motor generating 258 horsepower and the rear motor producing 489 horsepower, enabling the Spectre to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.
Key to the Spectre’s performance is its 102-kWh lithium-ion battery, crafted from cobalt and lithium, providing a range of 329 miles on a full charge. The vehicle’s charging capabilities are equally impressive, with a 34-minute charge from 10% to 80% using a 195 kW fast charger, and a rapid nine-minute charge providing a sufficient 100 km of range.
In terms of design, the Spectre features striking elements such as its massive laser-welded pillarless coach doors, the largest ever seen on a Rolls-Royce, and its wide Pantheon grille illuminated with 22 LEDs, creating a distinctive nighttime signature. Additionally, the Starlight Doors, adorned with 4,796 softly illuminated ‘stars,’ add a touch of elegance to the vehicle’s interior.
Despite its luxurious features, the Rolls-Royce Spectre comes with a hefty price tag. Base models start at around $450,000, but with premium options, the cost can exceed $500,000. In Nigeria, after factoring in local taxes and delivery charges, owning a Spectre will set buyers back over N900 million, making it a symbol of extreme opulence in the country.
Competing in the luxury electric vehicle market, the Rolls-Royce Spectre faces rivals like the $300,000 Cadillac Celestiq EV. However, its most formidable challenger will likely be an upcoming all-electric car from Bentley, scheduled for release in 2025. Davido’s acquisition of the Spectre not only cements his status as a trendsetter but also brings attention to the evolving landscape of luxury automobiles in Nigeria.
