An agreement between the manufacturer and HITRANS (The Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership) sets the stage for not just one, but a total of six Airlander 10 aircraft to provide emission-free air mobility in the extended area of the Scottish Highlands and Islands before the end of this decade. The Airlander 10, known for its unique shape and promising capabilities, has transitioned from a futuristic concept to a real-world solution for green and efficient passenger transportation.

HAV’s recent partnership with HITRANS signals progress towards commercial services across Scotland’s Highlands and Islands. The focus is now on building a complete business case with HITRANS’ support to improve transport in regions including Na h-Eileanan Siar, Highland, Moray, Orkney Islands, and Argyll and Bute.

As part of the agreement, the Airlander 10’s manufacturer will reserve six early production slots for the HITRANS-operated units. If all goes according to plan, six Airlander 10 aircraft will be operational in the area by the end of the decade. In regions like these, the Airlander 10 has the potential to revolutionize connectivity and access to vital public services.

The production site, located at Carcroft Common near Doncaster in South Yorkshire, will cover 50 hectares (123.5 acres) and feature state-of-the-art aerospace production technology. Supported by the City of Doncaster Council and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, the facility is expected to create 1,000 green jobs in the region.

With over £1 billion secured from industry customers through pre-orders, the Airlander 10 is not only a green alternative but also offers unmatched capacity and flexible capabilities suitable for operations in remote areas. Additionally, plans for its successor, with double the capacity and extended range, promise further advancements in zero-emission air transport.
