At Island Dragway in Great Meadows, New Jersey, the ImportRace channel on YouTube captured some intense GM versus Mopar showdowns under the night sky. The familiar roar of tuned sports cars and muscle cars filled the air, although some of these classics have ceased production, like the L-bodied Dodge Charger sedan and Challenger fastback coupe, along with the retirement of the mighty Hemi V8 from the lineup.
Even Chevrolet bid farewell to its traditional front-engine RWD configuration with the C7 Corvette Z06. However, amidst these changes, there’s excitement brewing. The C8 generation Corvette has been a sensation, especially with its move to a midship position and the record-breaking 670-hp C8 Z06.
Meanwhile, the Dodge Charger is gearing up for its eighth generation, now available with EV or inline-six powertrains, marking a departure from its traditional ‘American muscle car’ roots. In a series of three head-to-head battles captured on camera, the ImportRace videographer documented the clash between a four-door supercharged muscle car and the legendary Corvette C7.
The battles were intense, with technical difficulties affecting the first round and the Corvette struggling to keep up. However, the subsequent rounds showcased the capabilities of both machines, with the Charger taking the first win and the Corvette fighting back in the following rounds. Unfortunately, the final round ended in a dramatic crash, leaving one side victorious and the other walking away disappointed.
