Porsche is very serious about showing that its special fuel is just as good as gasoline, even though more and more cars are becoming electric. The company said that every car in the 2024 Supercup series will use the special fuel they make in a factory in southern Chile.
The Supercup race series has been happening every year since 1993. It’s a special kind of race that uses cars that are all the same. In 2024, there will be 32 cars racing in eight different races all over Europe. These cars are all exactly alike: they’re all Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars with a special racing engine. And for this season, they’ll be using the special fuel that Porsche makes in Chile.
Porsche makes different kinds of special fuel in a plant in Chile because it’s really windy there. They say that the cars racing in the Supercup don’t need any special changes to run on this fuel, but the computer inside the car needs an update.
The special fuel should make the cars run just like they would with regular gasoline. The main difference is that this fuel isn’t made from fossils. Some people who have driven these cars with special fuel say they couldn’t tell the difference until someone told them. The new season starts in Italy on May 19 and ends on September 1, and Porsche expects to use a lot of this special fuel.
Why is this special fuel important?
Porsche has been working hard to make this special fuel because some places are planning to ban regular cars that run on gas in the future. With electric cars being the only option, Porsche wanted to offer another choice. They make this special fuel using water and carbon dioxide. Wind power runs the factory in Chile, so they don’t need to use any more fossil fuels to make this fuel. And in Europe, they’re okay with selling cars that run on this special fuel even after they ban regular gas cars.
