Ahead of the second sprint race in Miami, Mercedes has learned from its mistakes in Shanghai. In Shanghai, they made big changes to the cars of Russell and Hamilton before qualifying. But those changes didn’t help; instead, it made things worse for them in qualifying.

Russell said they would approach setup changes differently in Miami. They would stick with what they have, even if it’s not perfect, rather than trying something completely new.

“It’s better to stick with what you know, even if it’s not perfect,” Russell said. “Trying something new can be risky, especially when you have little time to adapt.”

He believes it’s better to work around known issues than to take a chance on something new that might not work.

“We’re always trying to improve, but sometimes reaching for perfection can cause problems,” Russell explained. “We won’t make the same mistake again. The competition is tough, and finding the right setup can make a big difference.”

Mercedes will bring some small updates to the Miami race to improve the performance of their cars. After experimenting with different setups in recent races, Russell thinks it’s time to settle on a direction and make the most of it.

“We’ve learned a lot from the past races,” Russell said. “Now we know where the car works best, and we need to build on that.”
