Pontiac’s Trans Am solidified its position as the top model in the Firebird lineup in 1978, achieving record-breaking production numbers. Out of the 93,341 Trans Ams produced that year, nearly three times more units were manufactured compared to the base Firebird, with the Esprit and Formula trailing behind in production figures. Notably, the majority of the 1978 Trans Ams, totaling 80,676 units, were equipped with automatic transmissions, while only 12,665 featured manual gearboxes.

A recently listed 1978 Trans Am, belonging to the same owner throughout its lifetime and located in California, surfaced on eBay with intentions for a complete restoration. The seller, mopar6930, attested to the car’s well-maintained condition, evident from its remarkably preserved floors and minimal rust damage.

While the original interior displays signs of aging, including seat tears and console cracks, its completeness remains intact. Under the hood lies the original 6.6-liter V8 engine paired with an automatic transmission, demonstrating proper functionality. Despite receiving a repaint approximately 25 years ago, the car presents well, though discerning collectors may seek additional refinements.

Amidst fervent bidding activity on eBay, with 35 bids already placed and a top offer of $8,000, the seller has set a reserve price, ensuring the Trans Am remains available until a suitable bid is accepted. As the auction continues, interest in this classic Trans Am remains high, poised to find its new home in Las Vegas.
