After deciding to change its plans for Formula 1, Honda made a deal with Aston Martin to supply engines for their cars starting in 2026.
This means Honda won’t be providing engines for the cars driven by their protege, Tsunoda. He started with Honda’s program and now drives for AlphaTauri, which is now called RB.
The CEO of Honda Racing Corporation, Koji Watanabe, said they want to continue supporting Tsunoda, even if he moves to Red Bull without them. He sees it as a great story for Tsunoda to shine with Red Bull.
Watanabe mentioned that even if Tsunoda drives for a team with a different engine, they could still support him personally.
There’s a possibility that Tsunoda might move to Aston Martin with Honda. Fernando Alonso has already signed with them until 2026, but Lance Stroll’s future isn’t confirmed yet.
Watanabe thinks there’s a chance Tsunoda could join Aston Martin. He also hinted at the possibility of Honda supporting him at a different team in the future.
Tsunoda has been doing well in his fourth season in F1, helping RB hold onto sixth place in the midfield battle with seven points. However, it’s unclear if he’ll be considered for a promotion to Red Bull’s main team.
