Earlier this week, Red Bull announced that Adrian Newey will leave the team in Milton Keynes after working there for almost 20 years. He played a big role in designing the cars that helped Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen win many world championships.

But because of some problems within Red Bull this year, Newey felt it was time to leave. He’ll still be working on his RB17 hypercar, but he won’t be involved in Formula 1 anymore. He can join other teams starting from March 2025.

This gives Newey some time to work on the cars for the 2026 season. Ferrari is interested in hiring him, but Newey says he doesn’t have any plans to join another team right now. He wants to take a break from racing for a while.

“Formula 1 takes up a lot of time, and I’ve been doing it for a long time,” Newey said in an interview with Sky Sports F1. “Last year was really busy because Red Bull was fighting hard with Mercedes, and we were also developing the RB18 car.

“I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. Over the winter, and as things unfolded this year, I felt it was time to step back. I’m lucky that I don’t need to work for money, so I want to take some time off, travel with my wife and dogs, and just enjoy life.”

“Right now, I don’t have any plans for what’s next,” he added.

Lewis Hamilton, who will be driving for Ferrari in 2025, said he’d love to work with Newey. Newey appreciated Hamilton’s comment but said he needs a break first before thinking about the future.
