Carlos Sainz drove his Ferrari to fourth place in the race at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. But, after a penalty, he drops to fifth place. The penalty came because he was involved in a crash with McLaren’s Piastri during the race.
Sainz was fighting with Piastri for fourth place. He was unhappy because he thought Piastri was driving too aggressively and making dangerous moves. Sainz kept asking the race officials why Piastri wasn’t being punished.
When Sainz realized no action would be taken against Piastri, he tried to overtake him. But, his car slid and he collided with Piastri’s car. This caused Piastri to pit for repairs, ruining his chances of scoring points.
After looking into the incident, the race officials decided Sainz was at fault for the crash. They gave him a five-second penalty and a penalty point. They said Sainz didn’t control his car properly during the overtake and caused the collision.
Although they acknowledged that there were some reasons why the crash happened, like the slight loss of control of Sainz’s car, they still penalized him. Normally, the penalty for a crash is 10 seconds and 2 penalty points. But because of some reasons, they gave him a lighter penalty: 5 seconds and 1 penalty point.
