The race went really well for Lando Norris because the safety car came out just when he needed to make a pit stop. This gave him an advantage over Max Verstappen, who was expected to be faster. But Norris managed to stay ahead and even increase his lead.
After the race, Verstappen admitted that he didn’t have the right car to compete with Norris. The McLaren team was surprised by how well their car performed against Red Bull’s.
Andrea Stella, from McLaren, said they always believed in Norris’s abilities. They knew that once they provided him with a good car, he would be able to win.
This victory was especially meaningful because it was the first one for Norris. Stella dedicated the win to Gil de Ferran, a former member of the McLaren team who passed away recently. McLaren CEO Zak Brown also mentioned Mansour Ojjeh, another important figure who passed away last year.
Brown believes that de Ferran and Ojjeh’s influence played a part in Norris’s victory. He thanked all the people at McLaren for their hard work, saying it was a team effort to improve McLaren’s performance in Formula 1.
