Marquez, Jorge Martin, and Enea Bastianini are all hoping to land a spot on the Ducati team next year, alongside double champion Francesco Bagnaia. Ducati was initially hesitant about Marquez joining its satellite Gresini team this year, but they eventually allowed him to ride a year-old GP23, and they’ve grown to like him.

Marquez, being a star with a history of winning titles, is an appealing choice for Ducati. However, they’re also concerned about how his presence might affect the team’s harmony.

Ducati has hinted that they might announce Bagnaia’s teammate as early as next month’s Italian Grand Prix. General manager Dall’Igna will play a crucial role in this decision. Danilo Petrucci, who knows Dall’Igna well, believes Marquez is the frontrunner for a factory promotion next year.

Petrucci thinks Dall’Igna won’t let a rider like Marquez slip away because of his relentless pursuit of goals. Marquez’s recent duel with Bagnaia in the Spanish Grand Prix highlighted his potential impact.

Petrucci wonders if Bagnaia would be comfortable with Marquez potentially challenging his unofficial number-one status at Ducati. The human aspect within the team is also something to consider.

If Marquez secures the second seat at Ducati, it would mean missing out for Bastianini, who struggled with injuries in his first campaign with the team. Martin, currently leading the championship, has made it clear he wants a factory ride at Ducati.

Petrucci feels for Bastianini, believing he hasn’t reached his full potential yet. He supports Martin’s desire for the factory ride and encourages Marco Bezzecchi as well.

Ultimately, Petrucci hopes Ducati doesn’t rush their decision and considers all factors, especially long-term results over immediate circumstances.
