Johann Zarco regrets his outburst

Zarco got angry at chief FIM steward Freddie Spencer after a crash with Aleix Espargaro during the Spanish GP last month. His frustrations at how the stewards handle things, among other issues, led to a heated argument in race control. Zarco also said he didn’t think Spencer was right for his job.

Before this weekend’s French GP, Zarco met with the stewards again to talk about what happened in Jerez. His LCR team posted on social media about the meeting, saying it was positive and both sides discussed how to improve safety and review incidents in the championship.

Zarco admitted on Thursday that his behavior was unprofessional during the meeting. He said he raised his voice, which wasn’t necessary.

But after the crash and how the meeting went, he felt he needed to speak up. Zarco explained that he disagreed with Spencer and the other marshals on many things. He felt they sometimes misunderstood the riders’ intentions.

Zarco mentioned that during the meeting, they wanted to know his thoughts about the crash, but he couldn’t say much because he was the one who got hit. He felt he needed to justify himself, which made him angry.

Zarco acknowledged his outburst wasn’t professional, but he felt he needed to express his feelings about the situation. He hopes for better communication and understanding between the riders and the stewards in the future.
