Tesla took down almost all of the over 3,000 job openings

Tesla recently took down almost all of the over 3,000 job openings listed on its website, indicating a freeze on hiring across the company, as reported by Quartz on Wednesday. By Thursday morning, only three positions were left, all for an internship called the “Manufacturing Development Program,” which seems to offer perks but doesn’t mention pay. So, if you’re eager to work for Tesla, it seems you might have to do it for free.

The electric car maker from America has been cutting jobs ever since it shared disappointing results for the first quarter of the year. Tesla plans to reduce its workforce by 10% to save money. According to Reuters, by the end of 2023, the company had over 140,000 employees worldwide.

In the initial round of layoffs, two executives and 500 workers from the Supercharger division, responsible for Tesla’s fast-charging network, were let go. The second round affected employees in Tesla’s software, service, and engineering departments.

In the midst of these job cuts, Rich Otto, Tesla’s former head of product launches, announced his departure from the company through a post on LinkedIn. He mentioned feeling that the company had taken “its pound of flesh.”

“Great companies are made up of equal parts great people and great products, and the latter is only possible when its people are thriving,” Otto said. “The recent layoffs that are rocking the company and its morale have thrown this harmony out of balance, and it’s hard to see the long game. It was time for a change.”

“I was lucky enough to work across many of the engineering, design, manufacturing, creative, and sales teams that make our cars possible, and I’ve loved the opportunity to lead how we introduced these products to the world,” he added.

It has been reported that Tesla still had several hundred job openings listed on professional platforms as of Wednesday.
