The future of charging electric vehicles (EVs) depends a lot on Tesla’s Supercharger network. But recently, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk fired everyone in that department. This is a big deal because Tesla’s charging plug became a standard for many other companies, like Ford and Rivian. But these companies don’t sell cars with Tesla’s plug yet. So, if you want to charge those cars on a Tesla Supercharger, you need an adapter dongle.

The Atlantic wrote a detailed article about this situation. It says that using Tesla’s plug was a good idea at first, but now it’s causing problems. Musk fired Tesla’s whole Supercharger team, which doesn’t make sense since charging is so important for Tesla. Musk said Tesla will still grow the Supercharger network, but more slowly. Ford and Rivian don’t know what to do now because they lost their main contacts at Tesla.

It’s like when Apple changed its charging port on iPhones and removed the headphone jack. People had to buy dongles to use their old headphones with the new iPhones. It was annoying and expensive. That’s how it feels with EV charging now. Tesla convinced everyone to use its plug, but now people with other types of plugs are left behind. It’s not fair.

Charging EVs is already a bit annoying. You need different apps, maps, and payment methods. But with Tesla, it’s easier because their chargers work seamlessly with their cars. But now, with these changes, things might get worse. The adapters Tesla is making could be risky if they’re not made well. It’s a messy situation, and it might get worse before it gets better.
