Daimler Vans USA has issued a recall for a select number of 2024 model-year Mercedes-Benz eSprinter electric vans due to a software error in the ESP control unit. This error could lead to an electrical fault in the brake booster, activating a limited fallback level and potentially requiring increased braking force.

The recall affects vehicles equipped with ESP software versions A9079029008, A9079020005, and A9079023306, produced for the US market between March 21 and April 8. Mercedes identified the issue during routine development test drives in January 2024 and has initiated corrective measures to address the software error.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail and instructed to visit authorized dealers for a software update of the ESP ECU. Mercedes assures that vehicles produced after April 9 are not susceptible to recall defects.

To determine if their eSprinter is included in the recall, owners can check their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA’s website or the automaker’s recall portal. The recall underscores Mercedes’ commitment to addressing potential safety concerns and ensuring the reliability of its electric vehicles.
