In April, there was a 20% boost in new car registrations in Germany compared to last year, hitting 243,102 in total. From January to April, registrations reached 937,887, marking an 8% rise from the previous year.
The sales of plug-in electric cars also saw improvement last month, mainly due to a rebound in plug-in hybrids, while sales of all-electric cars remained flat year-over-year. This is a concern given the lack of EV incentives in 2024.
In April, there were 44,803 new plug-in electric car registrations, an 8% increase year-over-year. However, the market share of plug-ins decreased to 18.4% from 20.5% the previous year as the overall market grew faster.
Registrations of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) slightly decreased by 0.2% year-over-year to 29,668, resulting in a market share drop to 12.2% from 14.7% last year. On the other hand, plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) registrations surged by 28% year-over-year to 15,135.
