For those who enjoy doing their own adventure travel, Overland Expo is a well-known event series that was founded in 2009. Hundreds of suppliers of bicycles, cars, camping gear, travel gear, and services are gathered at each event, which also includes the Overland Film Festival.
Starting in 2021, they began creating an official custom vehicle (a 4×4 and a motorcycle) for the event, and GMC has been involved in these adventures.
In 2022, a GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X was transformed into an overland truck. This year, the event is honoring that build with the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X as the 2024 Ultimate Overland vehicle. The custom truck will debut at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona, and appear at all subsequent events organized by Emerald.
The truck will be equipped with the latest adventure gear, including Peak Suspension parts, OEM AEV Edition fender flares to fit 35-inch BFGoodrich AT tires, 17-inch Torque Wheels, a 589 Fabrication Mini-Fighter front bumper with space for an integrated front skid plate and mounts for four Vision X CG2 lights, a 9,500-lbs ComeUp Winch, an AEV rear bumper, a snorkel kit, a MagnaFlow Overland Series exhaust, and AEV skid plates for the IFS, transfer case, fuel tank, and rear differential.
Off-grid power is provided by a Redarc 200W solar panel and the latest Manager Alpha 100 for charging, a Battle Born Batteries 100Ah 12-Volt heated LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Battery for energy storage, and a Bluetti Power Inc AC240 power station. The build relies on a 2.7-liter turbo HO engine with 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, offering a towing capacity of 5,500 lbs.
