Italian luxury carmaker Lamborghini has revealed details about its upcoming High-Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV), set to succeed the iconic Huracán. This cutting-edge model will boast a twin-turbo V8 engine and a hybrid system, promising unparalleled performance on the road. While the name of the Lamborghini Huracán’s replacement remains a mystery, exciting details about its innovative plug-in-hybrid powertrain have emerged.
The successor, currently codenamed Lamborghini 634, will feature a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine, replacing the Huracán’s naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10. This advanced V-8 engine will be paired with a trio of electric motors, showcasing Lamborghini’s commitment to high-performance electrification.
The Italian automaker has designed the new flat-plane-crank V-8 from scratch, with a clear focus on surpassing the performance of the V-10. While Lamborghini has not disclosed the full technical specifications, it has shared some impressive details. Firstly, the new 4.0-liter V-8 engine boasts a redline of 10,000 rpm, significantly higher than the Huracán’s 8500 rpm limit.
The V-8 produces 739 horsepower between 9000 and 9750 rpm and 538 pound-feet of torque between 4000 and 7000 rpm, outperforming the Huracán’s peak figures of 631 horsepower and 417 pound-feet. The plug-in hybrid system is expected to follow the blueprint used for the 1001-hp Revuelto. Two electric motors will likely be mounted on the front axle, providing torque vectoring during power delivery and regenerative braking.
The third electric motor is positioned between the V-8 engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is the same gearbox used in the Revuelto but optimized for the new model.
This rear e-motor includes the inverter and axial electric unit, generating 148 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Speculation about the new car’s name includes “Temerario,” but Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has hinted that it will be named after a fighting bull.
The Huracán’s successor is set to launch later this year, marking the latest addition to Lamborghini’s expanding electric lineup, which already includes the Revuelto and the plug-in-hybrid Urus SE.
The 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto comes with a starting price of $608,358. If you’re eyeing this brand-new 1001-hp plug-in hybrid from Lamborghini, it’s time to start saving. This high-performance vehicle isn’t cheap, so you might want to consider selling some art or finding creative ways to fund your purchase.
