Following the success of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, Hyundai is getting ready to release another electric vehicle, the Ioniq 9. It will be a large, three-row SUV, similar to the Kia EV9 or the electric version of the Hyundai Palisade.

Originally called the Ioniq 7 based on the concept car, Hyundai might change the name to Ioniq 9 to make space for potentially smaller future models like the Ioniq 7 and 8.

The Ioniq 9 will likely look sleek and upscale, with a long wheelbase for plenty of interior space. While the concept car had some futuristic features like rear-hinged doors, the production version will probably be more conventional. Expect design elements like pixel lighting and sustainable materials.

Just like other Ioniq vehicles, the Ioniq 9 will likely use Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture and offer similar powertrain options as the Kia EV9. This means a base rear-wheel-drive version with 215 horsepower, a longer-range rear-wheel-drive version with 201 horsepower, and an all-wheel-drive model with 379 horsepower.

The driving range should also be similar to the EV9, reaching up to 304 miles on a single charge. And like other Hyundai electric cars, the Ioniq 9 is expected to have one of the fastest charging times on the market.

Pricing is not yet announced but expect it to be more expensive than the gasoline-powered Palisade and potentially similar to the Kia EV9, which starts at $54,900.

The launch date is also not confirmed yet, but reports suggest it will be unveiled in the first half of 2024, possibly at the Busan International Mobility Show in South Korea on June 27th. It might take some time to reach U.S. dealers though, with estimates pointing towards a mid-2025 arrival for the 2026 model year.
