Forget about the latest Jeep models. Vigilante 4×4 has taken a classic 1988 Grand Wagoneer and equipped it with an impressive 807 horsepower Hellcat Redeye V8 engine, leaving enthusiasts in awe.
This powerful beast surpasses any factory Jeep in both power and acceleration. Vigilante even created a new chassis to handle the immense torque of the Redeye engine.
The interior of this $385,000 machine is inspired by Rolls-Royce, featuring premium materials and modern functionality while maintaining its classic look. Vigilante 4×4, based in Johnson City, Texas, specializes in restoring classic Jeep SUVs and pickups and is in high demand for its meticulous work.
Swapping Engines for Unmatched Power
Originally, this 1988 Grand Wagoneer came with a 5.9L V8 engine producing 144 horsepower. By today’s standards, that’s less power than a Toyota Prius. Vigilante replaced it with a 6.2L Hellcat Redeye Hemi V8, which delivers 807 hp and 717 lb-ft of torque. This engine is a significantly upgraded version of the standard Hellcat V8, boosting both horsepower and torque.
Performance Beyond Factory Limits
This engine gives the Wagoneer more power than any factory Jeep. The brand-new Wagoneer model peaks at 510 hp, while the Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk, the most powerful factory Jeep, has 707 hp.
The new Wagoneer S, an electric model, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Vigilante 4×4 ensures that its custom-built chassis can handle the Hellcat Redeye engine’s power, using steel nearly twice as thick as the original frame.
Vigilante also upgraded the drivetrain, starting with a four-speed automatic transmission from Bowler Performance Transmissions.
The power is directed to Dana 44 front axles and Dana 60 rear axles, with components from Currie Enterprises. The SUV features a four-link Eibach suspension system with Fox Racing shocks for a modern, lifted stance and improved clearance, fitting 17-inch wheels.
The interior design takes cues from Rolls-Royce, using high-quality materials like sheepskin and premium-grade leathers from Moore & Giles. The restored seats have new springs, foam, and padding, while the carpet replicates the original long shag style.
Modern functionalities are hidden behind vintage controls, including updated gauges and climate control systems, enhancing the driving experience.

Vigilante 4×4 has been customizing Jeeps with powerful Mopar engines for four years, offering options like the 426 Hemi or Viper V10. This is the first time they’ve used the Hellcat Redeye engine.
