Attention Kia Sportage owners! If your vehicle rolled off the production line between April 30th and May 23rd, 2024, you may be at risk of experiencing a sudden loss of power steering.

This critical safety issue stems from a problem at the parts supplier, HL Mando America. Their Motor-Driven Power Steering (MDPS) units contain circuit boards contaminated during the soldering process.

The good news is a free fix is on the way Kia will be replacing the MDPS unit in all affected vehicles. Rest assured, this problem is confined to a specific production timeframe and doesn’t impact Sportages built after May 24th, 2024.

Kia is recalling certain 2024 Sportage SUVs built between April 30 and May 23, 2024, at their U.S. plant in Georgia.

This recall, designated as 24V-422 by the NHTSA and SC319 by Kia, affects vehicles with a potential issue in the motor-driven power steering assembly.

While no accidents or injuries have been reported, the circuit board in these cars may short circuit, causing a loss of power steering. This can be dangerous, especially at highway speeds. The good news is that Kia will replace the faulty part free of charge.
