Fisker encountered a hurdle during winter testing of their vehicles equipped with Magna Steyr control units.
Launched in December 2023, these units experienced power loss issues in icy conditions and during rapid speed changes.
This resulted in failsafe mode activation, as indicated by the warning lights. Fortunately, Fisker quickly pinpointed the cause in February 2024 and incorporated the fix into production vehicles by April.
Now, they’re taking steps to address existing vehicles. A recent recall impacted Fisker Ocean SUVs produced between May 2023 and December 2023.
These vehicles, identifiable by VINs starting with specific codes, may have an issue. It’s important to note that this recall is specific to the Fisker Ocean and doesn’t affect other car models that use a ‘W’ in their VIN, such as the Magna Steyr-produced BMW Z4 and Toyota GR Supra.
This news comes at a challenging time for Fisker as the company faces financial difficulties. After securing a loan in May 2024, they defaulted on it by June 2024.
Founded by the designer of iconic cars like the BMW Z8 and co-contributor to the Tesla Model S, Henrik Fisker’s company is currently offering significant discounts on the Ocean SUV to compete with the Tesla Model Y.
