Rivian is recalling certain R1T and R1S electric vehicles from model years 2022 and 2024 sold in the United States. The issue is related to a potential service error that could impact airbag deployment.
According to Rivian, the B-pillar and C-pillar trim panels in some vehicles may have been damaged by dealers during servicing. This damage could cause the panels to detach during an accident, increasing the risk of injury.
Rivian will inspect all affected vehicles and replace any damaged parts free of charge. The automaker launched an investigation into the matter in March 2024 after receiving reports of trim panels detaching during repairs. Luckily, there have been no reports of injuries so far.
If you own a Rivian R1T or R1S electric vehicle, be alert for a safety recall. The company is notifying owners by mail starting June 26th, but you can check for your vehicle’s status earlier by entering your VIN on the Rivian or NHTSA websites.
With starting prices of $73,000 for the R1T pickup and $78,000 for the R1S SUV, these Rivian vehicles offer impressive performance.
Both boast electric drivetrains with four motors combined that generate 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in roughly 3 seconds for the R1T and 3.1 seconds for the R1S.
