Owning a Fiat 500 from model years 2014 to 2019? A recent safety recall notice might be of interest.
Certain vehicles from these years are potentially equipped with incorrectly programmed tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).
This means the TPMS warning light might not illuminate as intended, even with tires that are significantly underinflated.
While regular tire pressure checks are a good habit for any driver, a malfunctioning TPMS could leave you unaware of a potential safety risk.
The issue came to light in February 2019 when an engineering test vehicle revealed a mismatch between the recommended pressure listed on the tire placard and the actual range at which the TPMS would trigger a warning.
Although the difference fell outside the federal safety standard by a small margin, FCA US LLC opted for a recall after a comprehensive investigation.
Fiat is recalling a significant portion of the 2012 Fiat 500s sold in the US. Nearly a quarter of these vehicles are affected, and owners who previously paid for repairs related to the recall issue will be reimbursed by the automaker, provided they have proper documentation like receipts from authorized Fiat dealerships.
This recall comes amidst the relaunch of the Fiat 500 for the 2024 model year. Unlike the gasoline-powered versions offered previously, the new 500 is exclusively electric.
Dubbed the 500e, this iteration boasts two battery pack options with a maximum range of 162 miles in city driving conditions.
While the 2012 Fiat 500 enjoyed strong sales figures, the electric version hasn’t garnered the same level of popularity yet.
