Across the Atlantic from the well-known Tamarit Motorcycles, a Triumph Thruxton 1200 R has been given a new lease on life by A&J Cycles on the outskirts of New York City.
Established in 2014, this workshop has built a reputation for crafting one-of-a-kind motorcycles, and their latest creation, the Creme, is no exception.
This cafe racer started life as a 2018 Thruxton, a powerful machine boasting a 1200cc engine with 96 horsepower and 83 lb-ft of torque.
While the stock Thruxton is a capable platform, A&J knew they could raise the performance further.
Their focus landed on the suspension, where they upgraded the Showa forks with an Ohlins NIX 30 cartridge kit and added a steering damper from the same brand for improved high-speed stability.
The rear shocks were also swapped for Ohlins units with piggyback reservoirs and progressive springs. Instead of focusing solely on power, A&J Cycles aimed to transform the Triumph Thruxton R into a lightweight and agile machine.
The stock brakes were swapped for top-shelf Brembo components, improving stopping power. Likewise, high-performance tires deliver superior grip.
Shedding pounds played a crucial role, with the team achieving a 45-pound weight reduction compared to the stock motorcycle.
This was accomplished through a combination of parts replacements and a custom subframe crafted by Speakeasy Motors.
The subframe integrates a sleek LED taillight and eliminates the bulky license plate bracket. Visual appeal wasn’t sacrificed in the pursuit of performance; a handcrafted leather seat by Fish Brothers Upholstery adds a touch of comfort and style.
