KTM has long recognized the strategic importance of capturing young riders early in their motorcycling journey. The 85 SX is a testament to this commitment. Designed as a bridge between the 65 SX and 125 SX models, this motocross bike is specifically tailored to the adrenaline-fueled aspirations of 11 to 16-year-olds.

A proven dominant force in its class, the 85 SX has recently undergone a comprehensive update for the 2025 model year. To ensure that this machine embodies the spirit of KTM’s larger motocross offerings, the Austrian manufacturer subjected it to exhaustive testing across a variety of demanding terrains.

The result is a bike that not only visually resembles its full-sized counterparts but also shares its core characteristics in terms of handling and performance. The 2025 KTM 85 SX is more than just a motorcycle; it’s a platform for young riders to develop their skills and ignite their passion for motocross.

Built for enduring harsh conditions, the KTM 85 SX prioritizes agile handling. Its chassis geometry has been meticulously tuned, featuring a flatter steering head angle and increased steering angle for improved responsiveness.

The rear suspension is entirely new, employing a WP XACT monoshock with a revised linkage for enhanced rider connection and stability, especially when tackling big jumps. Reduced rear wheel travel contributes to heightened traction and control. Maintaining the proven 43mm WP XACT USD AER fork, the front end benefits from a slightly lower air pressure for a smoother ride.

The core of the motorcycle, the 85cc engine, has undergone meticulous refinement to deliver even more exhilarating performance. KTM has significantly revamped its 85 SX for 2025, delivering a package focused on improved performance and handling. At the heart of these changes is a new cylinder head and spark plug combination, complemented by refinements to the ignition, exhaust, shifting mechanism, and carburetor.

To enhance weight distribution and chassis rigidity, the engine has been strategically repositioned three degrees upward and paired with a larger radiator. The bike’s aesthetic has raised with a slimmer profile, mirroring the design language of its larger SX counterparts. New footpegs and upgraded triple clamps further contribute to the bike’s refinement.

A modest yet potentially impactful weight reduction of 300 grams sharpens the 85 SX’s agility on the track. Production of the 2025 KTM 85 SX is underway, with units expected to arrive at KTM dealerships in August. Pricing specifics will vary by region, so interested riders are encouraged to contact their local KTM dealer for accurate and up-to-date information.
