A software error has been identified in a small subset of 2024 and 2025 Hyundai GV60 and GV80 SUVs. This defect, originating from incorrect rearview camera software, can result in an unintended shift of the camera display to a different screen.
This anomalous behavior manifests solely when the vehicle is reversed at a speed exceeding 6 mph (10 km/h) before the infotainment system has fully initialized. Given the infrequent nature of such conditions, it’s plausible that few dealerships or owners have encountered this issue.
Hyundai Motor Company, headquartered in South Korea, commenced an investigation into this matter on June 12, 2024. In the following month, Hyundai Motor America obtained video footage demonstrating a GV80 experiencing the problem while reversing at a speed surpassing 6 mph within a processing facility.
A comprehensive analysis of production records identified a total of 1,488 vehicles potentially affected in the US market: 477 units of the 2025 Genesis GV80 and 1,011 units of the 2024-2025 Genesis GV60. Both models are produced at Hyundai’s primary assembly plant in South Korea. Considering this information, it’s unsurprising that the touchscreen infotainment system is supplied by LG Electronics, also based in South Korea.
Importantly, Hyundai Motor America has not reported any incidents of accidents, injuries, or other negative outcomes associated with this software flaw. The limited number of affected vehicles, the specific conditions required to trigger the issue, and the absence of reported incidents suggest a low-risk situation.
However, Hyundai is actively working to rectify the software error and will notify affected owners when a solution becomes available. Genesis has initiated a recall affecting its GV80 and GV60 SUVs due to a malfunction in the rearview camera system.
Vehicles produced between March and June of 2024, as well as those manufactured from July 2023 to June 2024, are included in the recall. Dealers will rectify the issue through a software update scheduled for release on October 5th.
Owners can determine if their vehicle is part of the recall by inputting the 17-character VIN on the NHTSA or Genesis website. While the midsize luxury GV80, refreshed in September 2023, boasts turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines, the upcoming 2025 GV60 will offer rear-wheel drive as standard configuration, with all-wheel drive available as an option.
