Ford has issued another safety recall for its seventh-generation Mustang, adding to a series of recalls that began with the 2024 model’s introduction last November. The latest concern involves potential failures in the rear suspension knuckles of Mustangs manufactured between July and September 2023 at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Unlike previous recalls attributed to Ford, this issue stems from a supplier defect.

North Carolina-based Citic Dicastal, the supplier of the affected rear-wheel knuckle and bushing assemblies, is responsible for casting imperfections that could lead to fractures or cracks. Ford initiated an investigation in June after receiving a warranty claim and identified two vehicles with damaged knuckles.

While no accidents or injuries have been linked to the defect, approximately 4,595 Mustangs are under recall. The root cause of the problem is traced to a manufacturing error during the casting process, where a debris filter was incorrectly positioned, resulting in contaminants entering the knuckle and compromising its integrity.

Ford has issued a recall for the Mustang due to a potential issue with rear suspension knuckles. Dealers have been instructed to replace faulty parts with correctly manufactured components at no cost to owners. While the recall is underway, official notification letters will be mailed to affected owners starting August 26th, with a deadline of August 30th for completion.

Unfortunately, Ford has yet to specify which 2024 Mustang models are impacted by this recall. The current lineup includes the EcoBoost, GT, and Dark Horse trims, each offering unique engine and transmission combinations. While the EcoBoost exclusively pairs with a 10R automatic, the GT and Dark Horse provide options for both manual and automatic transmissions.

Notably, the manual Dark Horse features a lower rev limit than its automatic counterpart. In contrast, Chevrolet’s Corvette Z06 and ZR1 boast significantly higher performance figures, thanks to their powerful LT6 and LT7 engines, respectively. Ford’s upcoming Mustang GTD, equipped with a modified 5.2-liter Predator V8, aims to compete in this high-performance segment.
