A recent recall issued by Toyota Motor North America has affected a small number of 2025 Lexus UX 300h models. The issue stems from a potential defect in the wire harness that supplies power to the vehicle’s motor generator’s electronic control unit.

This defect could lead to a sudden loss of drive power, posing a safety risk to drivers. The recall was prompted by a discovery made by the wire harness supplier, Yazaki Corporation, in January 2024.

The supplier identified a potential misrouting of wires within the engine room’s main wire harness. This misrouting could cause certain wires to fracture under stress, potentially leading to a loss of power.

Toyota and Yazaki conducted extensive testing to confirm the supplier’s findings. These tests revealed that one or both of the power wires to the motor generator ECU could fracture, resulting in a complete loss of drive power. The recall affects 141 vehicles produced for the US market between January 9 and 17, 2024.

Toyota has instructed Lexus dealers nationwide to replace the affected wire harness at no cost to customers. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail between September 23 and October 7.

Lexus owners can check if their 2025 models are subject to recalls by entering their 17-digit VIN on the Lexus website. The UX 300h, the sole UX configuration available for US customers, is manufactured at Toyota Motor Kyushu in Miyawaka and begins with the letter J.

The 2025 UX 300h offers eight trims, with the UX 300h F Sport Handling AWD being the most expensive at $47,550 before destination charges. The front-wheel-drive UX 300h starts at $37,515, while the all-wheel drive adds $39,085, making it a significant investment for a subcompact SUV.

Despite its connection to the previous-generation Toyota C-HR, the UX has not been a major sales success. Only 5,372 units were sold in the US in the first half of 2024, a 21% decline from the same period in 2023.

The Lexus NX, a compact SUV related to the upcoming Toyota RAV4 refresh, has been a strong seller in the region. The NX recorded sales of 34,639 and 34,038 units in the first halves of 2024 and 2023, respectively.
