Vauxhall’s new Frontera marks a significant shift in the electric vehicle market. For the first time in the UK, an electric car has been launched at the same price as its internal combustion counterpart. This is a departure from the usual trend where electric vehicles command a premium over gasoline-powered models.

The Frontera, available in both electric and hybrid versions, offers a range of features and trims to cater to different preferences. The Design trim level includes basic amenities like automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and dual displays. The GS trim adds features like heated seats, electronic climate control, and front parking sensors.

Customers can also opt for a seven-seater configuration and a Comfort Pack that includes heated elements and roof rails. The Vauxhall Frontera, a new compact crossover, is now available with both hybrid and electric powertrains. The hybrid version offers two engine options: a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with 100 horsepower and 205 lb-ft of torque or a 136 horsepower engine with 230 lb-ft of torque.

The electric version is powered by a 113 horsepower electric motor. Both models offer a range of features and performance options, including all-wheel drive, advanced driver assistance systems, and premium interior materials. The hybrid Frontera is available in two trim levels: Design and GS.

The electric Frontera has a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge. It can be charged from 20% to 80% in 26 minutes using a 100 kW DC fast charger. The Frontera is a spacious and comfortable crossover. It has ample legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers. The cargo area is also spacious, with a capacity of up to 23.5 cubic feet.

The Frontera is a versatile vehicle that can be used for a variety of purposes, including commuting, family outings, and weekend getaways. The recently introduced 2024 Opel/Vauxhall Frontera, a modern compact crossover, marks a revival of the iconic nameplate that graced the roads from 1991 to 2004.

Built on the versatile Smart Car Platform, it shares its underpinnings with the Citroen C3 and C3 Aircross, Basalt, Fiat Grande Panda, and the upcoming Multipla and Fastback. Positioned between the smaller Mokka and larger Grandland, the Frontera replaces the old Crossland and offers a front-wheel-drive configuration across all variants.

While the standard model accommodates five passengers, an optional third row can be added in the partially electrified version. With a cargo capacity of over 450 liters (15.9 cubic feet) and expanding to 1,600 liters (56.5 cubic feet) with the rear seats folded, the Frontera’s spacious interior makes hauling bulky items a breeze.

Another challenge would be the competitive world in the compact crossover segment, which is already saturated with popular models from established brands. To differentiate itself, the Frontera would need to offer a compelling value proposition, whether it be through competitive pricing, unique features, or superior build quality.

While the 2024 Opel/Vauxhall Frontera holds promise as a modern and practical compact crossover, its success in the American market would depend on several factors. By addressing the challenges posed by brand perception, competition, and pricing, Opel/Vauxhall could position the Frontera as a viable alternative for American consumers seeking a stylish, efficient, and versatile vehicle.
