The Shelby name has been relatively quiet in recent years, but that’s about to change. The legendary tuner has just revealed a new monster that’s set to redefine what’s possible for a street-legal muscle car.
The Shelby Mustang CODE RED has shattered the quarter mile record with a blistering 8.593-second run at 161.81 mph. This is a staggering achievement that puts it ahead of even the most powerful electric hypercars and supercharged demons.
Under the hood, the CODE RED packs a 5.2-liter V8 engine that has been heavily modified with forced induction and a host of other upgrades. The result is an astonishing 1,300 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft of torque running on E85.
This incredible power output allows the car to accelerate with such ferocity that it’s almost impossible to comprehend. The Shelby Code Red, a limited edition Mustang GT500, offers a staggering 1,000 horsepower and 780 lb-ft of torque on standard 93-octane fuel. However, its exclusivity comes at a price: only 30 units will be produced, each priced at a hefty $224,995.
This figure doesn’t include the cost of the base Shelby GT500, which can range from $81,000 to $127,000. For this substantial investment, buyers can customize only the stripes, choosing between Le Mans-style over-the-top or painted options.
While the Code Red may not boast an abundance of flashy features, its performance is undeniably impressive. Carbon fiber components, including the hood, front splitter, rear diffuser, pedestal wing, and rocker wings, reduce weight and enhance aerodynamics.
The interior has been stripped down to accommodate a harness bar and racing style leather seats. Additional features include billet engine caps, a 60th Anniversary badge, Code Red emblems, Shelby rocker stripes, a numbered engine and dash plate, embroidered floor mats, and sill plates.
