Renault’s Alpine brand is preparing to reveal its second all electric concept car, the A390_β. Following the A290 Beta, which served as a preview of the A290 model, the A390_β will also showcase a sport fastback design. Built upon the Renault AmpR Medium architecture, a platform specifically designed for C-segment vehicles, the A390_β is expected to be a zero-emission crossover with a distinctive sloping roofline.
The AmpR Medium platform, previously known as CMF-EV, was developed by Renault’s Ampere software and electric vehicle subsidiary. The A390_β concept is likely to offer insights into Alpine’s future electric vehicle plans. As a sport fastback, it could potentially combine the performance and style of a sports car with the practicality and versatility of a crossover.
The use of the AmpR Medium architecture suggests that Alpine is committed to leveraging Renault’s existing electric vehicle technology and infrastructure. While the A390_β is expected to be a concept car, it could provide a look into the design and features that Alpine may incorporate into future production models.
The A290 Beta, for example, served as a precursor to the A290, which is now available for purchase. Therefore, the A390_β could potentially influence the development of a future electric crossover model from Alpine. The upcoming Alpine A390, a sporty electric crossover, is generating buzz with its potential three-motor configuration.
While rumors suggest a front-mounted motor and two rear motors, the final setup remains uncertain. Battery capacity is estimated to be around 87 kWh, mirroring the Scenic E-Tech’s, which offers a range of up to 625 kilometers (388 miles).
Alpine’s A390, set to launch in 2025, will likely feature distinct engineering to differentiate it from its Renault-based sibling. The vehicle’s size is denoted by the “3,” while “90” implies everyday usability. The sporty crossover will make its public debut in Paris later this October. Alpine also plans to introduce an electric successor to the iconic A110 sports car and expand its reach to the American market in 2027.
