FCA US LLC has initiated a recall for over 1.2 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks in the United States due to a software glitch that could potentially disable the electronic stability control system. This recall encompasses vehicles manufactured between October 31, 2017, and February 14, 2024, and includes models equipped with cruise control, adaptive cruise control, and the TRX performance package.

The software malfunction poses a heightened risk of accidents, particularly at raised speeds, and contravenes federal safety regulations. To rectify this issue, dealers will be instructed to update the anti-lock brake system control module software at no expense to affected owners.

The specific software flaw resides within the anti-lock brake system control module, which is supplied by Continental Automotive Systems of Troy, Michigan. This module is utilized in Ram 1500 pickup trucks equipped with any of the aforementioned sales codes.

The recall also extends to 7,299 anti-lock braking system control modules that were sold as replacement parts for the 2019 and 2021 to 2024 Ram 1500. FCA US LLC initiated its investigation into this software problem on February 15, 2024.

The automaker’s Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance organization conducted a thorough review of customer assistance records, warranty data, and field reports from March 2024 to April 2024. Subsequently, engineering and manufacturing teams also scrutinized the issue to comprehend the failure mode and identify the affected vehicle population.
