The 1972 model year was a challenging time for performance oriented cars. The GTO, a once iconic nameplate, experienced a significant shift in strategy that ultimately diluted its appeal. Dodge attempted to avoid a similar fate with the Challenger by streamlining its lineup.

The Challenger’s options were reduced to just two models, eliminating the convertible and R/T trims. The available engines were also cut to three, including a slant-six and two V8s: a 318 with 150 horsepower and a 340 with 240 horsepower.

The more powerful engines, like the 426 Hemi, 383 versions, and 440 Six Pack, were discontinued. A 1972 Challenger recently listed on eBay highlights the model’s enduring appeal despite its age and a carburetor fire.

The car, part of a larger estate find, still features its original paint and appears to have been well-maintained. Despite the fire damage, the Challenger has undergone repairs, including a rebuilt transmission and engine resealing.

The original carburetor and numerous extra parts and documents are also included in the sale. This Challenger Rallye is a classic muscle car with a lot of potential, offering a solid foundation for a restoration project.

While it’s not currently road worthy, its original features and components make it a desirable vehicle for enthusiasts. The car originally came equipped with a 340ci engine, though it’s unclear if that’s the original unit.

Its interior is still in its original condition, and it boasts features like air conditioning, power disc brakes, and power steering. The seller is asking for $25,000, but they’re open to offers.

If you’re interested in purchasing this classic muscle car, you can arrange an inspection and have it towed home from Conway, South Carolina. With a little TLC, this Challenger Rallye could be a prized addition to your collection.
