Ford has issued a recall for 144,516 Maverick trucks due to a frozen rearview camera image. The problem lies in the Connected Touch Radio’s software, which can experience memory leaks and other vulnerabilities. These issues can cause the rearview camera image to freeze, potentially obstructing the driver’s view and increasing the risk of an accident.

The recall affects vehicles produced between 2022 and 2024. Ford is working to update the software to address the issue. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail and can have the software updated at no cost. This recall is a reminder of the importance of keeping your vehicle’s software up to date. Regular software updates can help to address safety issues and improve your vehicle’s performance.

The 2022 Ford Maverick’s rearview camera freeze issue was first reported on April 4, 2022. Ford has instructed dealers to update the Connected Touch Radio software for affected owners at no cost. Owners will be notified by first-class mail between September 30 and October 4, 2024.

To check if their Maverick needs an update, owners can enter their vehicle identification number (VIN) on Ford’s recall page. The VIN starts with “3” since the Maverick is exclusively made in Mexico. Alternatively, they can use the NHTSA’s look-up tool.

The Maverick, which has a starting price of $23,920 for the XL with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost and front-wheel drive, is still available to configure as a 2024 model. The 2.5-liter hybrid starts at $25,670, and all-wheel drive adds $2,220 to the EcoBoost’s price.

The reason for the higher all wheel drive price is the switch from a twist beam rear suspension to a multi link system. The 2025 model year facelift introduced all wheel drive to the hybrid, which also got multi link independent rear suspension for improved ride quality and handling. For 2025, the EcoBoost is only available with all wheel drive.

Additionally, the 2025 Maverick features a refreshed exterior design with new headlights, taillights, and grille. The interior also received minor updates, including a new steering wheel and a revised center console. The Maverick’s dimensions and cargo capacity remain unchanged for 2025.

The 2025 Ford Maverick offers a blend of practicality, fuel efficiency, and value. With its updated features and improved performance, the Maverick continues to be a compelling choice for buyers in the compact pickup truck segment.
