The Cupra Terramar, the successor to the Ateca, has commenced production at the Gyor assembly plant in Hungary, where Audi manufactures the Q3 and Q3 Sportback. Sharing its platform with these crossovers, the Terramar is rumored to be the brand’s final internal combustion vehicle.

However, this decision seems shortsighted given the 43.9 percent decline in electric vehicle registrations in Europe last month compared to the previous year. Many automakers have reversed their plans to go fully electric by the end of the decade, making the Terramar’s launch less surprising.

Based on the versatile MQB platform, the Terramar is expected to arrive in dealerships in early November 2024. The Gyor plant, capable of producing up to 170,000 vehicles and 1.6 million engines annually, offers a wide range of powertrain options for the Terramar. From the efficient 1.0 TSI to the powerful 5.2-liter FSI used in the discontinued Audi R8 and Lamborghini Huracan, the Terramar caters to diverse driving preferences.

Additionally, the plant produces electric axle drive units for the Porsche Macan Electric, Audi Q5 e-tron, and Q8 e-tron. Named after a Spanish racing circuit, the Terramar is available with gasoline, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The entry level model features a 150-horsepower 1.5 eTSI engine.

The Cupra Terramar, a new model from the Spanish automaker, is set to make a splash in the European market. With its sleek design and powerful engines, the Terramar is poised to become the brand’s best-selling vehicle. Available in both gasoline and plug-in hybrid variants, the Terramar offers a range of options to suit different driving needs.

The gasoline powered models provide impressive performance, with the 2.0-liter TSI engine delivering a potent 265 horsepower. For those seeking a more fuel-efficient option, the 1.5-liter eTSI mild hybrid offers a balance of power and efficiency. However, it’s the plug-in hybrid VZ 1.5 eHybrid that truly stands out.

With its combination of a gasoline engine and electric motor, this model boasts impressive fuel economy and a substantial electric only range. The Terramar’s exterior design is characterized by its sharp lines and athletic stance. The interior features high-quality materials and a modern, driver focused layout.

With its spacious cabin and ample cargo space, the Terramar offers a comfortable and practical driving experience. The Cupra Terramar is a compelling addition to the European market. With its combination of style, performance, and efficiency, it has the potential to become a popular choice for drivers seeking a premium compact SUV.
