Justin Holmes, a renowned Australian custom bike builder, has crafted another stunning creation. Hailing from the Gold Coast, Holmes is known for his meticulous paint jobs and innovative designs.

This particular project, built in 2021 for a client named Aaron, is a testament to his skill and passion. Starting with a 1995 Honda XR600R, Holmes transformed the farm bike into a sleek and powerful scrambler.

With a focus on modern electronics, grey paintwork, and a light and fast ride, Holmes delivered a motorcycle that exceeded Aaron’s expectations. The builder’s attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the bike, from the custom designed bodywork to the carefully chosen components.

The XR600R’s original forks were shortened and rebuilt to achieve a more aggressive, forward-leaning posture, while the wheels were replaced with Talon hubs, stainless-steel spokes, and Excel rims. The bike’s Pirelli Scorpion Rally tires provide excellent traction both on and off-road, making it a versatile and capable machine.

Holmes’ work on the XR600R showcases his ability to transform a seemingly ordinary motorcycle into a truly extraordinary one. His passion for custom bikes is evident in every detail of his creations, and his reputation as one of Australia’s leading custom bike builders is well deserved.

Aaron’s XR600 underwent a meticulous transformation, resulting in a truly exceptional motorcycle. The braking system was upgraded with premium master cylinders and new drilled rotors, ensuring enhanced stopping power. The rear suspension was refurbished to maintain optimal performance, while a custom-built subframe, fabricated from tubular steel, now supports the shock absorber.

The bike’s aesthetic appeal is equally impressive. A bespoke leather saddle, meticulously crafted with intricate stitching, sits atop a fiberglass electronics box. A handmade airbox, featuring a Mikuni TM42 flat-slide carburetor, replaces the standard pod filters, offering improved airflow and performance. The fuel tank, sourced from a Honda XL, was thoroughly refurbished and modified to seamlessly integrate with the XR600’s frame.

The cockpit area boasts a digital Motogadget Motoscope Mini dial, providing essential information at a glance. New handlebars, billet control levers, stylish grips, and fresh switches enhance the rider’s comfort and control. A high-grade LED headlight from Purpose Built Moto illuminates the way ahead, complemented by small Motogadget turn signals for increased visibility.

Other notable additions include a Vortex rear sprocket, a swingarm-mounted license plate holder, and a Black Box controller for the electronics. These enhancements not only improve the bike’s functionality but also contribute to its sleek and modern appearance.

Under the hood, the XR600’s engine received a comprehensive rebuild. A higher-spec crankshaft and connecting rod, previously installed by a previous owner, were retained and further enhanced. Justin took the engine to the next level by boring out the cylinder and installing a larger Wiseco piston, resulting in increased power and torque.

A custom made clutch cover with transparent plexiglass showcases the intricate details of the pressure plate, adding a touch of visual interest. The exhaust system was also upgraded with a bespoke high mounted setup made of stainless steel. This system provides improved performance and a distinctive sound.

The finished motorcycle, aptly named ZeThumper, features a striking color scheme that complements its custom components. The gas tank is wrapped in three shades of grey with Honda logos, while the frame, wheels, swingarm, forks, and much of the engine are finished in black, creating a cohesive and visually appealing look.
