The Lancia Delta, a legendary nameplate in the Italian automaker’s history, is set to make a comeback in 2028 with an electric twist. While no test mules have surfaced yet, digital artist Bernhard Reichel has envisioned a potential design for the next-generation Delta, drawing inspiration from the iconic first generation model.

Reichel’s design concept features a steeply raked rear window, an upright liftgate, circular taillights, and a gloss-black roof mounted spoiler. The Ypsilon’s C-pillar badges and pop-out rear door handles are also incorporated into the design. To emphasize its electric nature, the artist has omitted tailpipes and added digital side mirrors.

The Lancia Gamma, a name synonymous with luxury and performance, has had a storied history. Introduced in 1910, the original Gamma was a limited edition model with only 258 units produced. Its second generation, launched in 1976, featured elegant Pininfarina styling and solidified its reputation as a desirable automobile.

While Stellantis has announced plans for the STLA Large platform to be used by five brands by 2026, Lancia is notably absent from this list. This suggests that the upcoming 2026 Gamma will likely be based on the front-biased STLA Medium architecture. Positioned above the yet to be launched STLA Small, STLA Medium will serve as the foundation for the all new Lancia Delta.

Drawing inspiration from the Peugeot e-3008 and e-5008, the 2028 Lancia Delta is expected to feature a short wheelbase version of the Gamma’s architecture. Unlike its French counterparts, the Delta will focus solely on electric powertrains, offering both front wheel drive and all wheel drive options. With a potential range of up to 700 kilometers, the Delta aims to deliver a compelling blend of luxury, performance, and sustainability.
