The Alfa Romeo Stelvio, a dynamic and visually striking D-segment utility vehicle, has entered the 2025 model year with a simplified lineup. Previously available in seven distinct grades, the 2025 Stelvio offers only two choices: the base Stelvio and the limited edition Stelvio Tributo Italiano.
The base Stelvio, starting at $51,195, includes all-wheel drive and standard features such as leather seats, a heated steering wheel, and a premium sound system. The Tributo Italiano, priced at $56,690, offers additional visual and convenience enhancements, including unique exterior styling elements, a sport package with upgraded suspension and brakes, and a premium interior with Alcantara accents.
However, the exact extent of its “limited” availability remains unclear, with Alfa Romeo providing little information on the production run or distribution of this special edition model. Despite its simplification, the Stelvio remains a relatively niche offering in the US market, with sales declining compared to previous years.
In the first half of 2024, Alfa Romeo delivered only 1,866 Stelvio units, a significant drop from the 2,752 sold in the same period in 2023. This pales in comparison to the Porsche Macan, which sold 14,306 units in the first half of 2024. The Stelvio’s decline can be attributed to several factors, including its relatively high price point, limited dealer network, and competition from more established luxury brands.
Additionally, the Stelvio’s aging design and lack of significant updates may have contributed to its waning popularity. While the Stelvio offers a unique blend of style, performance, and luxury, its niche appeal and limited availability may hinder its long term success in the highly competitive D-segment SUV market. The powerful V6 engine that once propelled it to glory has been replaced by a smaller, more fuel efficient 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder. While the Stelvio’s performance has diminished, it still offers a blend of style, comfort, and technology.
The Stelvio’s exterior design remains striking, with its bold lines and aggressive stance. The interior is also well appointed, with high quality materials and comfortable seats. The 2.0 liter engine provides adequate power for most driving situations, and the eight speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly.
Despite the reduction in engine power, the Stelvio still handles well and offers a comfortable ride.
