In an unexpected turn of events, Keanu Reeves—Hollywood superstar and widely regarded as an intriguing individual—will be racing in a one-time event at the Toyota GR Cup at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend. This isn’t Reeves’ first time taking the wheel for a race, either.

Reeves shared a brief video on several social media platforms, expressing his gratitude to the series for the chance to participate. However, he didn’t reveal many other specifics.

Reeves will be joined by YouTube personality Cody Jones, known from the channel Dude Perfect, who will be making his debut in auto racing.

Although Reeves competing in the GR Cup might seem like an unexpected development, the actor does have some racing experience.

He has previously competed in the Long Beach celebrity race, a fan-favorite event, back in 2009 and 2010, adding to his racing credentials.

Reeves claimed victory in the 2009 race, but his return in 2010, when he entered the Pro class, was less successful. Since then, he hasn’t participated in any racing events.

However, the actor is a familiar face at Formula 1 races and owns an impressive collection of cars and motorcycles, cementing his status as a true motorsport and automobile enthusiast.

Reeves’ participation in the GR Cup will mark his most significant racing endeavor to date. The series, although relatively new, is known for being a fiercely competitive support series for the SRO Fanatec GT World Challenge.

It holds a similar place to the Global MX-5 Cup within the IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship and Michelin Pilot Challenge.

The cars featured in the GR Cup are specially modified Toyota GR86s, equipped with sequential transmissions, roll cages, upgraded suspensions, and Continental slick tires, though they retain much of their similarity to the road versions.

All cars are produced by Toyota in North Carolina. Unlike the Long Beach celebrity races, Reeves will be entering a professional-level sports car competition this time around.
