Porsche is addressing a common problem faced by owners of its two-decade-old Carrera GT sports car, where infrequent driving can cause tire deterioration. As a solution, the automaker is offering Carrera GT owners a free set of modern performance tires. This offer is particularly significant for those fortunate enough to own this powerful car, which boasts a 604-horsepower V-10 engine mounted behind the seats. The new tires aim to improve the car’s performance and ensure it remains in top shape, even after years of limited use.

In collaboration with Michelin, Porsche has developed a model-specific version of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for the Carrera GT. This is the second time Porsche has introduced new tires for this model, the first being in 2013. These newly designed tires are tailored specifically for the Carrera GT, enhancing its overall performance and offering a more modern driving experience. The partnership reflects Porsche’s commitment to maintaining the performance and safety of its classic sports cars.

The updated tires bring significant improvements in driving dynamics and driver feedback. Porsche’s development driver, Jörg Bergmeister, stated that the new tires not only make the Carrera GT faster but also easier to handle during spirited driving. Moreover, the tires enhance safety by improving stopping distances—by up to eight feet from 62 mph and up to 39 feet from 124 mph—making the Carrera GT more responsive in critical moments.

This new-tire offer is also part of Porsche’s resolution of a recall issued last April for 489 Carrera GTs. The recall was related to a potential suspension failure in the affected vehicles. As part of the recall resolution, Porsche has confirmed that these Carrera GT owners will receive free maintenance services, including a set of newly designed tires, to ensure their vehicles remain safe and fully functional after periods of inactivity.

For Carrera GT owners who are not directly affected by the recall, Porsche advises contacting local Porsche Centers to arrange for their free set of modern tires. This offer underscores Porsche’s dedication to customer satisfaction and maintaining the long-term viability of its iconic supercars, ensuring that even after 20 years, the Carrera GT remains a thrilling and safe driving experience.
