Volkswagen recently introduced the updated 2025 Taos, its Golf-based crossover aimed at the North American market. While the changes are not extensive, they include notable upgrades in performance, interior features, and a new transmission system. Despite these improvements, the pricing remains fairly close to its 2024 predecessor, and one trim is even slightly cheaper.

Starting at $26,420 for the front-wheel-drive Taos S, the 2025 model sees a $1,000 increase from last year, factoring in the $1,425 destination fee. At the higher end, the most expensive model, the Taos SEL, comes in at $36,120, and it includes VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, which normally adds $1,700 to the cost of front-wheel-drive variants. Below is a comparison of the pricing for the 2025 and 2024 models:

– Taos S: $26,420 (+$1,000)
– Taos S 4Motion: $28,120 (+$360)
– Taos SE: $29,320 (-$270)
– Taos SE 4Motion: $31,020 (+$20)
– Taos SE Black: $31,570 (+$220)
– Taos SE Black 4Motion: $33,270 (+$170)
– Taos SEL 4Motion: $36,120 (+$1,180)

The updated 2025 Taos comes with a slightly more powerful 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, boosting horsepower from 158 to 174, while the torque remains unchanged at 184 lb-ft. For 4Motion models, Volkswagen replaced the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with an eight-speed automatic, following customer feedback that the previous system’s shifting felt rough.

Other changes include a refreshed interior with a new floating 8-inch infotainment screen and a selection of new color and wheel options. However, this update isn’t a complete overhaul. The Taos remains an affordable option within Volkswagen’s lineup, positioned just behind the updated Jetta, which starts at $23,320.
