Toyota is significantly enhancing its motorsport involvement with the introduction of the GR Corolla TC, which will compete in the newly formed TC America series. This latest addition complements the brand’s existing partnerships, such as its collaboration with Haas in Formula 1 and participation in NASCAR and the renowned 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The GR Corolla TC is designed to fit between the GR86 Cup car and the Supra GT4 car, emphasizing Toyota’s dedication to promoting grassroots motorsport through initiatives like the GR Cup series featuring the GR86 sports car.
The GR Corolla TC will be based on the production model, utilizing the same 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. This engine delivers 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the GR-Four all-wheel-drive system. While Toyota has yet to reveal specific power figures for the racing variant, it is expected that the performance will closely mirror that of the standard model, ensuring competitive racing capabilities.
To enhance the racing performance of the GR Corolla TC, Toyota plans to implement several upgrades at the GR Garage in Mooresville, North Carolina, where GR86 Cup cars are also assembled. Key improvements will include high-performance braking components, such as six-piston front and two-piston rear brakes sourced from Alcon.
The vehicle will also feature custom MacPherson struts developed by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division and dual-adjustable shocks from JRi to optimize handling and responsiveness on the track.
In terms of technology and safety, the GR Corolla TC will be equipped with a Bosch Motorsports electronics system, which will manage various functions, including the drivetrain and ABS.
Inside the cabin, safety features will include an FIA-approved roll cage, an OMP fiberglass racing seat with a six-point harness, and an electronically activated fire-extinguishing system. The car’s aerodynamic profile will be improved with the addition of a prominent rear wing, rear diffuser, and front splitter to enhance downforce.
The TC America series is set to launch in 2025, merging the previous TCX and TC classes into a single competitive field. Toyota has indicated that additional specifications and pricing for the GR Corolla TC will be announced in the near future, signaling its intent to make a notable impact with this new offering.
