Hyundai’s electric vehicle lineup is expanding rapidly, encompassing various models to cater to different preferences and budgets. The recently introduced Inster EV, a compact crossover, is set to receive a more rugged variant called the Inster Cross. Despite its off road inspired appearance, the Inster Cross remains a primarily city focused vehicle.
Earlier this year, Hyundai launched the Inster EV in Europe, a rebranded version of the Casper supermini originally sold in South Korea. The Inster EV boasts a larger footprint than its ICE predecessor to accommodate the battery pack, positioning it between the A and B segment models in the European market.
However, the pricing of the Inster EV has raised eyebrows, with its starting price of £23,495 being higher than some C-segment competitors like the Citroen e-C3. Hyundai justifies the pricing by highlighting the Inster EV’s advanced features and distinctive design.
The Korean automaker is now further emphasizing the design aspect with the Inster Cross, a rugged looking trim that will enter production later this year.
The Inster Cross, while visually distinct, offers no underlying technical improvements over its base model. Its rugged aesthetic, featuring wide bumpers, black cladding, and skid plates, is designed to evoke a sense of adventure.
Roof racks and an optional roof basket cater to outdoor enthusiasts, while the exclusive Amazonas Green Matte paint and lime yellow interior accents provide customization options. However, those seeking enhanced off road capabilities might be disappointed as the Inster Cross primarily focuses on versatility with its folding seats.
The Inster Cross’s design is intended to appeal to those who desire a vehicle that looks capable of handling rough terrain, even if it may not be as well-suited for off-roading as some of its competitors. The wide bumpers and black cladding give it a rugged appearance, while the skid plates provide additional protection for the undercarriage.
The roof racks and optional roof baskets are practical features for those who enjoy outdoor activities and need to transport gear. The exclusive paint color and interior accents offer a degree of customization, allowing owners to personalize their vehicles.
While the Inster Cross may not be the ideal choice for those who frequently venture off the beaten path, it does offer a good balance of style, practicality, and versatility.
Its folding seats make it easy to carry larger items, and its rugged design gives it a distinctive appearance. If you’re looking for a crossover that looks tough and can handle a variety of tasks, the Inster Cross may be worth considering.
