Rivian is getting into the Halloween spirit with a fun series of software updates starting October 18. These updates, called “Car Costumes,” will add playful themes that transform the car’s display, sound, and lighting when parked. The new feature includes three different “costumes” inspired by popular films and TV shows, giving Rivian drivers a fun way to celebrate the spooky season.

One of the highlights is the “Knight Rider” theme, where Rivian owners can transform their vehicle into the iconic K.I.T.T. car from the 1980s TV show. When activated through the Rivian app, the Gear Guard mascot dresses up like Michael Knight, and the infotainment screen mimics the diagnostic display from the show. The car’s sound system plays the original Knight Rider theme song, and for 2025 Rivian models, the front light bar will glow red and emit K.I.T.T.’s signature scanner sound, recreating the classic look of the famous talking car.

Rivian also includes a “Back to the Future” car costume, turning their vehicles into the famous DeLorean Time Machine from the movie. In this mode, the Gear Guard transforms into Doc Brown, and the car’s screen displays elements from the DeLorean’s time travel interface. A “Plutonium Chamber” gauge and themed sound effects accompany the display, while 2025 models offer a special light and sound show when the car reaches 88 mph, mimicking the time travel effect from the movie.

For a more general Halloween theme, Rivian offers a “Haunted Rivian Car Costume,” where the Gear Guard dresses as a scarecrow and the vehicle displays spooky ghost visuals on the screen. The car will cycle through different sound effects and color themes, with green lighting on older models and multi-colored projections on 2025 models. This mode adds a variety of eerie effects that are perfect for the Halloween season.

In addition to these car costumes, Rivian has rolled out other Halloween-themed updates, such as replacing the standard locking beep with an owl chirp and turning pedestrians on the digital display into zombies, while cyclists appear as headless horsemen. Camp Mode gets a spooky touch with bats, pumpkins, and green flames, and every driving mode features Halloween-themed elements like skulls, candles, and witches. These festive updates will be available until November 4, allowing Rivian drivers to embrace the season fully.
