The classic Mustang, once a symbol of American muscle, is now fighting for its place in the automotive world. Despite its iconic status, sales of the seventh-generation S650 Mustang have been overshadowed by the dominance of SUVs and trucks. However, the allure of the pony car endures, as evidenced by the stunning restomod of a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 by Kenny Dillon.
Dillon’s passion for the Mustang was ignited by his youthful dream of owning a 1970 Mach 1. To bring this dream to life, he enlisted the help of Bond’s Body Shop to strip away the patina and transform the classic car into a modern masterpiece. The foundation for this transformation was a Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis, which lowered the car’s stance and significantly improved its handling.
The new chassis was paired with powerful Wilwood disc brakes and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires wrapped around Forgeline’s Grudge wheels, ensuring both style and performance. The 1965 Mustang Fastback, a bold and aggressive machine, is not just a showpiece with its crimson paint and menacing stance.
Under the hood lies a 737-horsepower Kennedy Performance 5.0-liter Coyote V8, supercharged by a Whipple and mated to a six-speed Tremec manual transmission. Power is channeled to the rear wheels, ensuring a thrilling driving experience. The engine bay is further enhanced with a Power by the Hour Performance accessory drive system, a PRC cooling system, and custom headers.
The exterior transformation is equally impressive. The PPG Colorado Red paint complements the reworked front and rear panels, custom grille, and bespoke under-hood panels. A functional hood scoop and LED headlights from Dapper Lighting add to the car’s aggressive appeal.
Inside, the cabin has been stripped and rebuilt. 2019 Mustang GT bucket seats, upholstered in black leather with red accents, offer both comfort and support. The rear passenger space has been sacrificed to create additional cargo room.
A Dakota Digital gauge cluster and a Sparco steering wheel mounted on an Ididit column provide essential information and control. Vintage Air conditioning and Wilwood pedals, finished in chrome, complete the interior.
