In a thrilling drag race, the Tesla Model X Plaid went head-to-head with the powerful Koenigsegg Agera RS. The Agera RS is a hypercar legend, with a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 1,360 horsepower and reaches 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds.
Known for breaking top speed records, it has an impressive 1:1 power-to-weight ratio and weighs only 2,932 lbs.
Tesla’s Model X Plaid, though a much heavier SUV at nearly 5,500 lbs, packs 1,020 horsepower and a powerful all-wheel-drive (AWD) system from its three electric motors, reaching 60 mph in 2.5 seconds.
Surprisingly, the Tesla held its own in the quarter-mile race. Thanks to instant torque from its electric motors and the AWD system, it took an early lead in each race, while the Agera RS only started to catch up near the finish line.
In their best run, both cars completed the race in 10.2 seconds, with the Tesla just edging ahead.
The result highlights electric cars’ potential to rival top combustion-engine hypercars.
While the Agera RS is unbeatable over long distances on E85 fuel, Tesla’s Model X Plaid proves that electric power provides a remarkable advantage in short sprints, with instant acceleration that’s hard to match.
This race demonstrates that the future of speed is shifting, with electric vehicles ready to challenge even the fastest hypercars.
