Volkswagen Group is set to introduce a new era of electric mobility with the upcoming Cupra Raval. This compact electric vehicle, built on the MEB Short platform, will precede the VW ID.2 and offer a look into the future of smaller, zero-emission cars. Unlike its larger siblings, the ID.3 and ID.4, which employ rear-wheel drive, the Raval will feature a front-mounted motor and front-wheel drive configuration.
This traditional setup, coupled with a 223-horsepower electric motor, will enable brisk acceleration, propelling the vehicle from 0 to 62 mph in under seven seconds. The base model is expected to offer a 56 kWh battery, providing an estimated range of 273 miles, while lower-spec variants will likely feature a 38 kWh battery pack.
Volkswagen is gearing up to electrify the hot hatch segment with the ID. GTI, is slated for a 2026 release. The concept showcased last year boasted a potent dual-motor setup delivering 335 horsepower, which could surge to 429 horsepower in overboost mode. Cupra, another VW Group brand, is also set to benefit from this electric performance, with a range-topping electric hot hatch version of the upcoming Raval in the works.
This zippy electric supermini is expected to pack around 300 horsepower and accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under five seconds. The Cupra Raval has been spotted testing, revealing a distinctive design with triangular headlights, air intakes, and a sporty rear diffuser. It’s poised to be more dynamic and stylish than the VW ID.2.
While the Raval’s base price is estimated at around €25,000, its availability in the US remains uncertain. Cupra’s US focus on crossovers and risk averse strategy make Raval’s introduction unlikely. However, other markets outside Europe might see the electric hot hatch.
Until the official reveal, artists have been busy imagining Raval’s design. One such rendering by avarvarii on Instagram offers a look at the car’s potential appearance. What are your thoughts on this unofficial design?
