General Motors has initiated a safety recall for a select number of 2025 Cadillac XT4 crossovers due to a potential airbag deployment issue.

The problem stems from a manufacturing error by Yanfeng Ramos Arizpe of Mexico, where the instrument panel upper cover wasn’t properly scored, which could hinder the correct functioning of the passenger-side airbag.

The issue was identified on August 30, 2024, and a stop-delivery order was issued on September 20, 2024, though some vehicles had already been delivered to customers. The affected XT4s were produced between September 4 and 9, 2024, at the Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City.

The plant is currently undergoing retooling for electric vehicle production, which will temporarily halt XT4 production. Scheduled to resume operation in late 2025, the plant gearing up for the new 2026 Cadillac XT4 will also welcome the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt thanks to a $390 million investment.

While General Motors hasn’t received reports related to the airbag recall, dealerships are prepared to replace faulty instrument panels with corrected ones. Notification letters will be sent from December 9th to 10th, 2024. In the meantime, owners can check their vehicle’s VIN on Cadillac’s website to see if it’s affected.
