Auto safety regulators are currently investigating over 360,000 Ford crossover SUVs following reports of brake system malfunctions.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 36 complaints have been filed regarding brake issues in 2015-2017 Ford Edge models, which reportedly fail to stop as expected.

The investigation, encompassing around 368,000 affected vehicles, focuses on a rear brake hose defect that could delay the vehicle’s ability to make sudden stops.

Although no official recall has been issued, the investigation aims to “determine the scope and severity of the alleged problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related consequences.” Ford has confirmed its cooperation with the NHTSA in this ongoing inquiry.

This follows a similar situation in 2020, when Ford recalled approximately 488,000 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX models for related brake hose failures.

In other recent actions, the NHTSA issued recalls for additional vehicle models. Chrysler’s parent company, Stellantis, has recalled 129,313 of its 2023-2024 Ram 1500 trucks due to a malfunction in the turn signal’s self-canceling feature.

The failure to cancel can result in an incorrect signal, potentially increasing the risk of accidents by misleading other drivers regarding the vehicle’s intended direction. This issue places the vehicle in noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standards.

The NHTSA also issued a recall for 27,185 Tesla 2024 Cybertruck vehicles due to a rearview camera issue. Tesla reported that “the rearview camera image may be delayed after shifting into reverse.”

This delay or failure in the rearview display could hinder the driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle, raising the risk of a collision.

These investigations and recalls come as part of the NHTSA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring vehicle safety compliance and addressing potential risks on the road.
